Me

I’m Geetanjali Chitnis, and I live in India.

I love reading, writing, music and eating in that order!

Books

My favorite genre of books is Romance, although I read almost anything. My favorite author is Jane Austen, and Pride and Prejudice is my all time favourite book. I’ve seen the 2005 version of the movie atleast five times, and I also loved the 1996 BBC version with Colin Firth. Another favorite book of mine is “Born Confused” by Tanuja Desai Hidier.

Writing

I write poetry and occasional short story, which I will try and put up on this site. All my work is original, and someday, I hope to be a successful journalist!) My favorite subjects in school are English Literature and Political Science, and I study in a school I have been studying in throughout my academic life.

Pets

I love animals, and I have two pet dogs and a cat. I’m sure you’ll be seeing pictures of them on this site!

Cricket

Cricket! I love Cricket, and like most other Indians, I love my team! I met Rahul Dravid for the first time when I was 6 years old, and I have been smitten since. He is my favorite cricketer. To quote from an entry I once wrote in a previous blog:

So how does one even begin to explain this man? The countless times I have been asked “why HIM?”

Why him indeed.

Him, because of that incredible smile.

Him because of that talent, my god, the talent which he has so carefully cultivated and grown with love and tenderness and care .

Him because of that ability to make you marvel in quiet wonder and awe at the the incredible way he lets you into his world of the willow , where not a word escapes his perfect lips, but the talking is done loud and clear with that swish of the blade as it cuts through the air..

Him because of the that glimpse of power and at the same time, humility that emits from his eyes every time. That quiet acceptance that he is not god, just himself.

Him because simply put – it’s Rahul Dravid.

For any Pride & Prejudice fan, the 1980 BBC version is a must-see. In every matter except the casting of Jane it is far superior to the so-so 1996 version and ghastly 2005 version (I guess I would have liked those more if I hadn’t seen this first). In this case faithfulness to the text is a good thing and it is simply the funniest, most enjoyable and most believable adaptation, but is unfortunately unobtainable.

Migosh, you are not the kid I photographed in 2003 .. it sounds as if you are all grown up!

Good writing; keep practicing. And thanks for photos of your mom’s garden; she should indeed be proud and happy with it.
